07 Oct Laredo Hotel Fire Update
A major overnight fire at the DoubleTree by Hilton on Garden Street prompted a massive multi-agency response, leading Laredo officials to issue an emergency declaration Wednesday.
At 1:14 a.m., first responders rushed to an active structure fire at the hotel, located in the 800 block of Garden Street. The response quickly expanded to include more than 80 firefighters from the Laredo Fire Department, alongside 12 Laredo Police Department officers, National Guard personnel, and emergency personnel who secured the perimeter and managed traffic control.
Emergency crews safely evacuated approximately 111 guests from the building. Four individuals were transported to Laredo Medical Center for treatment due to smoke inhalation.
Firefighters brought the blaze under control and extinguished the main fire by 2:54 a.m. However, emergency crews remain on-scene evaluating the building’s structural integrity, searching for hot spots, and working on a process to allow displaced guests to retrieve their personal belongings.
Following the incident, Laredo Mayor Dr. Victor Treviño issued a formal declaration of emergency for the area.
“I want to thank our first responders, emergency personnel, and hospital staff for their swift and coordinated response,” Mayor Treviño said in an official statement. “The immediate needs of those affected are being addressed, and the building’s structural integrity is being evaluated.”
No fatalities have been reported. The cause of the fire remains under investigation by local authorities.
