CBP Seizes More Than $30 Million in Alleged Meth at Laredo’s World Trade Bridge

Officers at Laredo’s World Trade Bridge seized alleged methamphetamine valued at over $30 million Monday, according to U.S. Customs and Border Protection.

Officers pulled aside a 2020 International LT625 tractor pulling a trailer whose cargo was listed as salt. A secondary inspection and a scan with a nonintrusive inspection system turned up 76 bags holding 3,395.91 pounds of alleged meth in the load. CBP put the street value at $30,355,444.

CBP kept the drugs but let the driver go, along with the tractor and trailer. Homeland Security Investigations agents are looking into it. CBP’s release doesn’t identify the driver or say whether anyone has been charged.

It’s the latest big seizure at the bridge this year. In June, officers found 1,100.79 pounds of suspected meth, valued at more than $10.1 million, hidden in a polypropylene shipment. In late August, they found 141.53 pounds of alleged cocaine, worth $1,889,791, in a truck listed as car parts, days after a separate cocaine seizure at the Colombia Solidarity Bridge. Together, those two August busts were valued at more than $2.9 million.

“The steadfast dedication of our workforce remains the cornerstone of our border security strategy,” said Alberto Flores, the Laredo port director. “This successful enforcement action underscores our resolve to protect our communities from dangerous contraband.”
