LISD Campuses Briefly on Secure Status Over Threat Aimed at Unnamed School

All Laredo ISD campuses spent roughly an hour on secure status Tuesday after police learned of a threat aimed at a school they did not name, according to the Laredo Police Department.

Police said law enforcement found the threat and officers followed up on it. The department described the move to secure status as purely precautionary. Later in the morning, police said the source of the threat had been contained, no threat remained toward any school and districts were being updated. The investigation is ongoing, and police said they will release more later.

LISD said police advised the precaution. Parents were notified shortly after 8 a.m., with word that students and staff were to stay indoors and keep exterior doors locked.

District communications director Veronica Castillon told the Laredo Morning Times that secure status isn’t a lockdown. She said it’s used when there’s a possible hazard outside a school, like police activity, a nearby crime or a dangerous animal, and it remains until authorities determine there’s no confirmed threat. LISD lifted it by 9:15 a.m.

United ISD and Laredo College were not placed under restrictions, per KGNS. UISD said none of its campuses were named in the threat. Laredo College said it did not enter lock down but postponed some events.

Police have not said what the threat was or which campus it was aimed at.
