Texas Mile Brings 200-mph Runway Racing Back to Beeville Oct. 23-25

The Texas Mile, where high-performance cars and motorcycles race flat out down a full mile of runway, returns to Beeville’s Chase Field Industrial Airport Complex Oct. 23-25.

Admission is $25 per person for a three-day pass with in-and-out privileges, and kids 12 and under get in free, according to organizers. Gates open at 9 a.m. each day. Racing runs until 4 p.m. Friday and Saturday and wraps up at 1 p.m. Sunday.

Per the Bee-Picayune, more than 125 registered vehicles are set to compete, with speeds topping 200 mph. Among the entries is Lee Novikoff’s officially licensed 1967 Ford Mustang “Eleanor” build, the car from “Gone in 60 Seconds.” M2K Motorsports is also back with land-speed racer Tracy Higginbottom of Edinburg, who is coming off a 231.5 mph Texas class record at Bonneville Speed Week, organizers said. Motorcycle riders include Brandon McBride, Christina Creamer, Joey Willhite and Bo Oliver.

Saturday will be the big day for spectators. A Show & Shine car show runs noon to 1:30 p.m., and drivers can bring their own rides to compete for the Director’s Award. Kids can build rockets, there’s family bingo, and an airplane ride raffle will raise money for local aviation education.

The aviation tie-in comes after Chase Field was added to the Texas Airport System Plan this year. Organizers partnered with Civil Air Patrol and EAA Chapter 1711 on a push to fund scholarships for young pilots and grow aerospace in the region, and static aircraft will be on display.

A devotional service, “In Honor of God,” starts at 8 a.m. Sunday in the spectator tent at the start line.

Spectators can bring coolers. Alcohol is allowed in spectator areas but not on the active grid, and glass containers are banned. Local vendors, including Trojan Express, will sell food.

Chase Field is at 4433 Texas 202 in Beeville. Schedules are at texasmile.net, and live leaderboards are at txmilespeed.com.
