Plainview Airport Lands $1.5M Federal Grant for New Terminal and Training Center

The Plainview-Hale County Airport is getting a new terminal and a space for aviation job training, with help from a $1.5 million federal grant, the city of Plainview announced this week.

The money comes from the U.S. Economic Development Administration, which announced the award Oct. 8 as part of $40 million in grants spread across seven states. The airport was among 10 recipients under the agency’s Public Works and Economic Adjustment Assistance program, and the airport’s plans for a terminal and training center are what put it in the running, per the city. The new terminal would replace aging facilities.

Local partners are putting in money, too. The city and Hale County have kicked in $2 million between them, and Plainview ISD has pledged $2 million more. The city puts the total investment at $6.15 million.

Along with the building work, the grant supports workforce programs for the aviation industry. The EDA says awards like this are meant to build on a region’s existing strengths and support long-term economic growth in struggling communities.

City Manager Ted Chancellor called it a new chapter for the airport, which goes by PVW. He said the project will give pilots and visitors modern facilities and give students a place for technical training, adding that the city is “just beginning to realize the full potential of our airport.”
