27 Oct Del Rio homeowner shoots suspected burglar inside Ricks Drive home

A Del Rio homeowner shot a man he discovered inside his house Saturday night, and the man was found afterward and taken to San Antonio for medical care, according to the Del Rio Police Department.

Officers responded at about 10:39 p.m. Oct. 24 to the 200 block of Ricks Drive, where a burglary involving gunfire had been reported. The homeowner told police a strange sound in the living room woke him, and he went to look and came across a man he did not know inside. He fired his gun and hit the man. 

The man had left by the time officers got there. Police said he was found after they investigated and searched the surrounding area. Because of his injuries, he was taken to San Antonio for further care.

The department’s Criminal Investigations Division is looking into the circumstances of the shooting. Charges against the man are pending.
