Woman, 28, dies after stabbing in Laredo; detained man is a Border Patrol agent

A 28-year-old woman was fatally stabbed in Laredo early Wednesday, and the 30-year-old man detained in connection with her death is a Border Patrol agent, Laredo Police Chief Miguel Rodriguez told the Laredo Morning Times.

Police said callers reported a domestic disturbance at a home in the 5500 block of Texana Street at about 2:45 a.m. A pilot flying an LPD drone spotted a vehicle leaving the area and radioed nearby officers, who stopped it. The woman was in the back of the vehicle with stab wounds and still alive. She was taken to a hospital and died there.

The driver was detained and, according to the reports, remained in custody Wednesday while formal charges were being drawn up. Neither he nor the woman had been publicly identified.

Rodriguez said the case is being treated as domestic violence but that investigators did not yet know what led to the stabbing. Police were waiting on a search warrant to process the scene, he said, and were seeking additional warrants for blood, saliva and other samples.

Officers who swept the home after learning children were inside found them unharmed, police said.

The Laredo Morning Times counts the woman’s death as the city’s sixth homicide this year.
