09 Oct AVIR at Beeville Earns Four-Star CMS Rating
AVIR at Beeville, a nursing home in town, has received a four-star rating from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, per the Beeville Bee-Picayune. CMS data shows the home also rates four stars in health inspections, staffing and quality measures.
Marketing Director Clarissa Beltran credited the rating to individualized care plans and regular contact with residents and their families, whether they’re in for short-term rehab or long-term care.
The home runs its own therapy team and wound care program, and its memory care is split into two secured units, one for men and one for women. Four staff members lead the daily morning operations meetings: Director of Nursing Rita Mungia, Assistant Director of Nursing Julie Hattersley, MDS Nurse Care Coordinator Janie Ellis and Director of Rehabilitation Emilio Martinez.
For families worried about cost, the home takes residents with Medicaid pending and has a contract with Veterans Affairs for military veterans. Social Services Director Elvira Pangelinan, who has more than 20 years of experience, teams with the business office and administrative and marketing staff to guide families through insurance questions and financial planning.
For families choosing a nursing home, CMS star ratings are a common starting point, and they vary widely. An analysis of 2026 CMS data by ElderVoice found about one in five nursing homes nationwide holds the lowest, one-star rating.
Rural communities have fewer options to begin with. A Texas Health and Human Services report counted at least 60 nursing homes closing statewide from 2018 to 2022, per the Texas Tribune. Nearly two-thirds were in rural areas, and a LeadingAge Texas official told the Tribune that the nearest alternative in rural areas can be 30 miles or more away.
