Harlingen To Get First HomeGoods in Cameron County

HomeGoods is coming to Harlingen. State records show the home decor retailer plans to open its first store in the city, and the first in Cameron County.

The filing with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation lists the Harlingen Corners shopping center at 2721 W. Expressway 83 as the site. Work on the 25,213-square-foot space was set to begin Oct. 1 and wrap up in a few months. The store is expected to open in 2027. TDLR notes that records like this can change.

Harlingen Corners sits just off the southwest corner of the interchange where Interstate 2 meets Interstate 69-E. Target, Walmart, Hobby Lobby, Ross, Burlington and Kohl’s are already nearby. So are two stores owned by HomeGoods’ parent company, TJX Companies: T.J. Maxx and Marshalls.

The Harlingen store would be the third HomeGoods in the Valley. The other two are in McAllen, at 7600 N. 10th St. and 700 E. Expressway 83.

TJX hasn’t officially announced the Harlingen location. The company has been open about growing, though. On its Aug. 19 earnings call for the second quarter of fiscal year 2027, CEO Ernie Herrman said TJX will speed up new store openings to 4% growth starting next year. The company had planned on 3%.

Herrman credited recent success across TJX brands, and said more traditional department stores closing in smaller markets is part of the opportunity. The plan includes opening 200 more HomeGoods stores across the 10 countries where TJX operates.

For those who haven’t shopped at one, HomeGoods is a discount home store. It sells furniture, rugs, lamps, wall art, bedding, kitchenware and other housewares, usually at prices below what you’d find at traditional home stores. Its inventory changes often, so shoppers tend to browse for good finds rather than shop for one specific item.

For Harlingen, it means a new place to pick up everything from a throw pillow to a new dining set without a drive to McAllen. It also adds one more reason to shop locally as the city’s retail corridor keeps growing.
