09 Oct Laredo Food Bank Hosting World Food Day Luncheon Oct. 16
The Laredo Regional Food Bank is marking World Food Day with a rice and beans luncheon Friday, Oct. 16, at the Joe A. Guerra Laredo Public Library, 1120 E. Calton Rd.
The lunch runs from noon to 2:30 p.m. Culinary arts students from three LISD high schools, Martin, Nixon (Mustang Kitchen) and Cigarroa, are cooking the meal.
Katie Nye will be the keynote speaker. She directs the Hunger Free Community Accelerator at the Baylor Collaborative on Hunger and Poverty, which helps communities across the country build lasting ways to fight hunger.
The luncheon also marks the food bank’s 43rd year serving Webb County. Executive Director Jessica Martinez said it’s a chance to spotlight young culinary talent while the community comes together around food insecurity. Methodist Healthcare Ministries and EOG Resources are the premier sponsors.
Attendees can RSVP through Eventbrite. For sponsorship or other questions, contact Martinez at 956-489-0934 or executivedirector@laredoregionalfoodbank.org.
