19 Oct AgTexas Farm Credit Gives $8,000 to Four Lubbock-Area FFA Chapters Heading to Nationals
Twenty-four students from four Lubbock-area FFA chapters are headed to the National FFA Convention in Indianapolis, and AgTexas Farm Credit is chipping in $8,000 toward their travel, per AgTexas Farm Credit. The convention runs Oct. 21 through Oct. 24.
AgTexas’s Lubbock branch gave $2,000 to each of the four chapters: Shallowater FFA, Lubbock-Cooper FFA, Lubbock ISD FFA and Lubbock-Cooper Liberty FFA.
Shallowater is sending the biggest group, 10 students, who will take part in the Agricultural Communications event. It tests how well students communicate about agriculture through digital media, journalism and public relations.
The other three chapters are entering the National FFA Agriscience Fair, where students research a challenge or opportunity in agriculture, analyze what they find and have their projects evaluated. Lubbock-Cooper is sending seven students in the Food Products and Processing Systems and Power, Structural and Technical Systems categories. Lubbock-Cooper Liberty is sending five in Plant Systems and Power, Structural and Technical Systems. Lubbock ISD is sending two in Animal Systems, which covers research on the genetics, nutrition, health and management of animals.
AgTexas CEO Kayla Robinson, a former FFA member herself, said the company is proud to back students who will shape agriculture’s future.
The company also runs an AgYouth of the Month program that has recognized top FFA and 4-H students across its 43-county service area over the past 11 years. It has given more than $280,000 to graduating high schoolers and graduate students. Students can apply online for $1,000 scholarships at agtexas.com through 5 p.m. Friday, Oct. 30.
