Man Accused in Oct. 11 East Lubbock Killing Arrested After 11-Day Search

Lubbock police have arrested a man they say shot two people in East Lubbock earlier this month, killing one of them.

Akkini McDade, 24, was arrested around 2 a.m. Thursday by Lubbock Texas Anti-Gang Center members and the U.S. Marshals, according to police. He is in the Lubbock County Detention Center on murder and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon charges, with bond set at $250,000, according to jail records. The records also list a parole violation hold and a speeding citation, but don’t say what he was on parole for.

The shooting happened Oct. 11 near East 26th Street and Ivory Avenue. Police said officers responding around 2:40 a.m. heard more gunshots while at the scene. They found 28-year-old Delton Lewis inside a car that had hit a parked vehicle. Yundi Inthisan-Johnson, 18, was hurt in what police believe was the same shooting and taken to University Medical Center with moderate injuries.

Early on, investigators determined that Lewis and Inthisan-Johnson were in the area when a gunman approached their vehicle and fired several rounds, police said. Hours later, they named McDade as the suspect. A warrant was issued that day, and police offered as much as $5,000 for tips on where he was.

Police said anti-gang center members spent 11 days following leads, logging hundreds of work hours, many of them overnight. The Lubbock Metropolitan Special Crimes Unit, Lubbock County Sheriff’s Office and Texas Department of Public Safety also helped, according to police.
