Mission Crash Leaves Two Dead

A fatal T-bone collision north of Palmview over the weekend claimed two lives, adding to a recent series of severe traffic accidents in western Hidalgo County.

According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, 53-year-old Leobardo Adan Garza and 36-year-old Margarito Vasquez Cano, both of Mission, were killed Sunday afternoon when Vasquez Cano ran a red light at Farm-to-Market Road 1924 and Minnesota Road, slamming his 2006 Toyota Tundra into Garza’s 2018 Ford F-150.

The double fatality comes as state troopers continue to investigate other recent fatal wrecks in western Hidalgo County, including an August head-on collision near West Mile 4 Road just north of Palmview that ultimately claimed three lives.

DPS has not indicated whether weather, speed, or impairment contributed to Sunday’s wreck, and the investigation remains active.
